351m 5.8l / 7.3l International Harvester IDI Diesel Engine Swap

I have a 5.8l 351m V8 in my 79 f250, and im wanting to swap it with a 7.3l International Harvester IDI Diesel. My dad did the same thing as he had some sort of inline six with a 4 speed manual shift in his 84 f250. I want to do the same thing and swap my c6 automatic trans. with a 4 speed manual trans. Anybody have a 7.3 International IDI w/ 4 spd. manual they want took off they're hands?

7.3 swap

i started this question on another thread, it seems to be a fairly decent idea and pretty straight forward... I decided to do the 7.3 powerstroke zf-5 swap using a heavy duty cab and chassis 4 a donor....it has upgrded turbo, computer, intercooler, injectors, and simplified wiring harness, no rearend speed sensor, no year specific guage cluster requirements.... the zf-5 is a pretty simple swap as far as i can see... I'll write a thread on it as i get rolling on it...You should do the same, theres alot of guys looking for info on both...

correction: my dads diesel isn't the indirect injection, its naturally aspirated, i don't know, unless i can find a good diesel or a big block im going to to swap my old wore out 351 with the better 351 out of my parts truck.

Naturally aspirated just means it doesn't have a turbo. It probably is an IDI..

Have you decided on the swap yet?

BFT, where in KY do you live? I happen to live along the border in IN and one of my son's friends has two 80s model F250s with the 6.9 IDI. Maybe I can connect the two of you and you can work something out.

found a better setup than previouly mentioed anfor alot less than 2k...if any of u guys need this setup he has several of the setups availible...found a 6.9 with 4spd, radiator ond some odds and ends 4- $150 bucks.... motor has bad head gaskets and no injection pump...also found a 7.3 turbo w/down pipe for 150 bucks.. i'm gonna mount the engine in the same local as the 460 then run my pipes around the front and down.. if i can find a decent intercooler thats going in too..still using the zf-5 and 205 setup though..

Any more information on this deal? Have an 85 with 7.3 IDI 4 speed. About 800K and it’s starting to go out would love to have the same engine.

He last posted once in 2016, a couple times in 2015, and doesn't seem to have really been on here since 2014. The thread is from 2011 so I don't think you will get any answers from that guy.
