Okay. Here's the story...
Put new engine together... had it running stationary for approx 50 minutes(break in). Changed oil. Took on road test. Runs Great. After approx 10 mins of road driving (Easy driving, no hotrodding) I get a bad knock coming off the TOP end. 2 mins later, engine siezes. Ideas? Thx in advance.

Can you turn the engine over at all? If not then something took a big dump. If your so sure it happened in the top end and you didn't find anything wrong with the valve train, then the next easiest step would be to pull the plugs and see what you find. I heard a similar story with a 460 once, turned out a piston went bad and most of it ended up in the oil pan. Also, an engine with no oil could easily run ten minutes or more. I've seen a 305 go 15min with no oil or water at 2000rpm, finally had to rev the hell out of it to kill it. And since it ran fine for fifty minutes and then only for ten after you changed the oil maybe you forget the oil? I've heard that story before too.....
Pull the distributor and look at the oil pump drive shaft. The pump could have seized and the shaft will be twisted. There has been a rash of this going on over on the mustang boards.
do you have an oil pressure gage in the truck? hmmm...maybe a rod cap wasnt tightened down enough. it couldve thrown a rod right off, seizing it between the block and the crank. how long did it knock before it seized? as you probably know, actual knocking (not detonation) is caused by excess clearances generally in rod bearings. clearances in the crank bearings usually go unnoticed since its still held down in three other places. it just sounds to me like a rod cap worked its way loose...which really sucks, i feel for ya man. let us know what it ended up to be though. hopefully thats not it. good luck
Wellllllllll, I finally got around to pulling that engine... Turns out I DID throw a rod, and I threw it good.. lol
I figured it was either rods or main bearings, just because I still had so much oil pressure..
Not sure why I threw the rod, but hey... Might not have been torqued right, maybe the rod itself had a defect... ahh, well.
Yes, I do have a whole set of mechanical guages in the vehicle... Thats what stumped me so much, was that Everything was right on and it still got f'd up...
Ahh, well. I guess Ill just have to fix it, right? Throw my old 460 back in for a while...

Stock rods, reconned, ARP Pro bolts, Clevite bearings...
Everything was torqued right and clearances were perfect! Waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! X(

First of all, they were the stock Car rods... Unfortunately I chose to keep them instead of forking out bucks for aftermarket... However, Im beginning to think that it's not the rod's fault. The bearings show signs of failure.. Im wondering if I didnt get a bad set of bearings from the factory.
Next, Ummmm.. yea. I have a dent in my crank at LEAST .040" deep.. need to get another crank. Block is undamaged, piston on the thrown rod is in fine shape.. but the rod took it up the ****.
However things are looking on the sunny, I have a friend of a friend who spec.s in 385-series ,he's going to try and find me a new crank for a decent price.. :S we hope.
