The only thing I don't like about my 06 psd is the mirrors. They are simply too small. Is their an aftermarket solution? Has anyone hooked the heaters to an upfitter switch so road dirt won't stick?
Do you have the paddle mirrors? If so, you can put tow mirrors on. You can find them on ebay, or if you want the 08 mirrors, I think you can get them from one of the sponsors on here (maybe dfuser). Can't help you with the upfitter switch question.
Kerry, which mirrors do you have? I have the large towing mirrors that have both the large mirror and the curved mirror underneath it. I've added the Cbedders but there are pros and cons for using them.
I got a 99 F350. Somebode hit my drivers side mirror and broke it off a couple of years ago while I was parrallel parked. I went to a Ford dealer in Minneapolis, MN and got a new one for $121. it was cheap enough that I replaced the passenger side also because the early 99s the tow mirrors in the full in position stuck out from the truck about an 1 1/2 farther than the new ones plus the cat eye mirror was nonadjustable. the new ones pivot forward and back. (Check with Ford) Good Luck.
if you are looking for the extendable towing mirrors then you should try here http://www.automotivemirrors.com/res...er=8&liter=5.4
this is the website I went to to get rid of my sportside mirrors. hated them. but I did a lot of shopping and these guys were the cheapest ford wants 360 a mirror here in ithaca
Yup, the 08's are a little larger. The biggest difference is the upper mirror is more squarish giving you a little better view as is the bottom curved mirror.
The good news is you can swap yours for the new 08s with relative ease...do a search for 08 mirrors, there have been threads with step by step instructions.
yes the '08 mirrors are a bit bigger. i hooked my heat up through the upfitters on my '05. worked great. i didn't like getting all of the water and dirt spots every time they got wet.
below is a post i placed on a thread some time ago. also will put the link so you can read about it if your interested in hooking up the upfitter to turn heat on/off.
"the mirrors are on ALL of the time. the two drawbacks to this are that obviously your heating elements are not going to last as long, and when the mirrors get wet they get more water spots on them. the easiest way to do it, and as i did, is to select which upfitter you want to use. remove the fuse for the heated mirror from the panel. i believe it was #39. check your manual(it's listed). then, run a 12 or 14 gauge wire from the upfitter wire into the fuse box, and connect it to the upper part of the fuse slot. i fashioned a little plug out of a regular male spade electrical connector to make it fit right. bingo. in about 15 minutes you have switched heated mirrors. you'll know if you did it correctly, as the mirrors get quite hot when they're on. let me know how it goes!"
Thanks again everyone.
I will hookup to an upfitter switch - I would have never thought about plugging into the fuse - great idea. The upfitters are fused so that's covered.
I never noticed the water spots either but up here in Canada we get dried on road salt.
A bit bigger mirror would be great so I don't have to move around to see what I want to see.
as stated above, the c-betr mirrors are awesome. i put a set on mine, then all my buddies wanted them for their trucks. here is a link. well worth the money!!
