differential

Since this page is for information and education, I'll confess my input in the noise problem of the differential on my '97 LWB Xcab 150. About two years ago I noticed a small leak around the front seal of the diff. While getting a safety sticker at a small garage I asked the owner could he replace the seal. I have replaced many seals on farm equipment over the years and considered it not a big problem. The owner had his helper do the job. He evidently overtighten the nut and after time the bearing starting squealing. Trying to save a few dollars cost me over five hundred. The mechanic who repaired it, after driving the PU a mile and learning that I had replaced the seal, immediately correctly diagnosed the trouble. MORAL: Sometimes spending more is the cheapest.
