I am planning on putting a 1978 400 into my 1966 F-100. Does anybody know what would be the best way to mount this engine, both trucks are 2 wheel drive and have the same front end. I was wondering if i should reuse the 400 mounts and custom fit or if some other mount would work better. The 66 had a 300 in it at one time. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
To the best of my knowledge; not knowing more info than you posted; you should be able to transplant the entire drive tran from your 78 to include the P/S & brakes. Only adjustment will be placement of engine monuts & transmisson mounts. There's acouple holes to align everything up with for your transmission & the engine mounts you might need to drill one offset hole to accomandate the perches.
Hope this helps you out. Others will chime in with comments someone done that swap, I've put a 302 w/ C-6 in my 65 acouple years back with not major problems. biggest issue I had was converting a 300 setup to a V-8 especially the gas throttle linkage
