I'm preparing to replace the serpentine belt on my 2000 F350 7.3L power stroke 4x4 crew cab. This is my first time, any advice, guidance, tips, warnings would certainly be appreciated -- this looks a lot different than the loosen and tilt serpentine replacement on my '87 F150.
I know zilch about PSD's, but you might want to try this question in the appropriate 7.3 PSD forum. You may get more help there. You can also search the forums, Your question may have already been answered.
It is no big deal to change. The only problem is it is easier to change with two people, one one the top of the motor and one one the bottom. it has so many turns it is a bear to do by yourself. all you need is a long 1/2 inch breaker bar. I would recommend to get a GOODYEAR GATORBACK belt. I have had very good luck with these.
on the double pully belt tensioner is a place for 1/2 drive breaker bar etc,I used a long flex ratchet and hookid it behind a/c pulley to hold tensioner
Sounds stupid but check that you dont have a 2 alternator set up first. The belt length is longer if you do. I never realized I had two till I changed the belt. I bought my truck used and two alternators never came up in the coversation.
Thanks to everyone; got the serpentine replaced and it would have been easier with a proper breaker bar. Did review threads and collected additional advice, including finding diagrams on this forum and not the 7.3 PSD forum.
Great to know good advice is easily available.
BTW, Clint40, I'm a long-time boater who is down to just two boats now after selling a 25-foot Bayliner that I brought new in 1986 and used to cruise the inland lakes of SC and the east coast from the Outer Banks to Key West -- a terrific boat that is now enjoying life on the Alabama River!
i dont know if two people would help. im sure the diesel is worse, but i jsut replaced my 5.4 belt. there is sooo much stinkin tension on the tensioner pulley! get a 4' breaker bar for sure!
