You would probably be better off by re-gearing the truck, or skipping the SHO and putting in a 302. I would re-gear first and see if you like it a lot more. My '08 Ranger has 4.10 gears on the stock tires, and I get around without a problem, granted I also know its not a V8 F150 too...

Is the t56 tranny a rear wheel drive tranny? I used to have an Taurus SHO and was pleased with the performance.

I have installed a Lincoln Mark 8 4.6 in my 79 F100, I still have plenty of work to do. Pictures are in my gallery.
I met a guy from Michigan that installed a GM Northstar engine in his S10 with a 700r4 tranny behind it with a slight mod to the bell housing to accomodate the starter being on the top side of the engine.
Anything is possible if you want to do some work.

The SHO is also a car engine...and not a real great upgrade. I think you'd be much happier with a V8 of some sort in the truck, a nice 351W wouldn't be too hard and with a manual it can go pretty good.

I've done the 351W/Ranger, and I wouldn't recommend it for a street driven ranger. It has too much power for the little Ranger chassis. Eventually mine was pretty ***** to the wall, 650 horsepower/590 Ft/Lbs at the rear wheels, but it started pretty close to stock to get the block seasoned.

I've gone with the 302/T-5 combo in a Ranger and wasn't too satisfied. It was definitly better than the 4.0L/M5OD, but nothing too special or outstanding, even with mild upgrades. That's the only reason I suggested the Windsor to him.

I've done the 302/C4 in an 83 and I was very happy with it. It was a 2wd and it still needed a lot of frame stiffening for that motor, and it was right about 230HP/250TQ.

My brother in law and I installed a 350 small block and turbo 400 tranny in a 83 Toyota 4x4. What a monster that was!

I have an 84 Mustang 5.0 in my 90 Ranger. I'm running a mildly lumpy Crane Fireball cam, Edelbrock carb/intake, headers and stock heads that have been massaged a bit. It dyno'd at a tad over 240 hp at the rear wheels. That's enough gofast for me. Your results may vary.

There's alot more stuff out there for installing a V-8 into the ranger than the yamuha 3.0. James Duff sells conversion kits just for the ranger V-8 swap.
