Talking differance in HO/non HO

Hi every one,Im new to this sight and wondering if you could help me?
what is the differance in the HO/nonHO,is it cam-heads-computer or all the above?
I have a 90 full size bronco Im restoring with a lot of modifications,1 is along time ago I bought a mass air conv kit from summitt racing because I in stalled a 92 roller cam mustang motor and a 5spd from a 90 f150,I started to have problems so I bought the mass air kit, it come with an air meter , injector and wiring loom & the computer, the loom plugs in between the stock loom and the computer,on the new computer it said non HO, the kit solved my problems and the differance it made was great.(the gread in me wants more)
It now runs the 351 firing order and sequential injection instead of bank,I read and reserched some of the mass air conversions others have done and Im wanting know what the differance is in the HO non HO computers, I changing to a 270 comp cam and would like to know if I should be runing an HO computer or to cip the computer I have or both.an HO and chip it.
I've rebuilt the motor last month and trying to get a little more out of it,this is what have.
1990 full sixe bronco
92 full roller cam motor .030 over
9.1 piston,270 comp cam, heads shaved .010,3 angle valve grind, 3/8 studs with guide plates 1.6 crane full roller rockers, truck manifold & intake, headman headers msd ignition & coil, k&n, mass air converted .
5 spd from a 90 f150
6" lift,6skyjacker shocks,exstended superlift radius arms.
409 gears in front 410 rear with aussi lockers in both,35/12.50 mud kings.

HO/ non HO

In the trucks, there isnt much difference, maybe the HO firing order. Originally, the "HO" in cars was a truck head, which was a little better flow. In 85, the carbed HO cars had a truck casting head, E5TE. Also the HO was a roller motor. In 85, it was possible to get a roller block with flat Hyd lifters and the throttle body intake that was not an HO. Had one of them!

The rest of the car line had the vanilla heads, same as 351's. In 86, the HO version heads were the small port versions with heart shaped chambers that did pretty well in stock apps, according to ford material, they had better times than the later version of HO mustangs (for a year or so) but they had no potential. In 87, the mustangs went to the E7TE casting which was the truck casting and stayed with that. The rest of the vanilla models, Crown Vic, Gran Marq, lincolns etc stayed with the E6AE casting for the rest of the 5.0 life, which werent bad heads for the application. They supposedly produced better low end torque, which was needed.

I am quite sure (without digging out that book) that all the trucks also had the same heads which were the E7TE casting. The 93 cobra used the GT40 casting, with some extra machining. The Lightening also used the GT40 castings. The Explorers started using the GT40P heads, which have better low lift flow than the 40's and is interesting because those engines were good enough for emissions to have carried the 5.0 several more years. Ford decided to go Modular instead. I have compared (stare and compare, nothing scientific) the E6 casting and the 40P's and the ports are very similar, but the chambers are very different.

Dont hold me 100% to all that---maybe some small differences. One person on here will be able to nail those casting #'s down---accurately

I am curious how well the MAF does with that lobe separation on the 270---110deg. Apparently does pretty well!

I was told by my machinist that builds a lot of engines said that comp cam ze264hr or the next step up cam with rpm of 1,500 to 5,500 had a duration of 260 270 would work well.
I did find in the summitt catalog a lunati voodoo cam,it has a 1,800 to 6,200 rpm, dur 227/233 -522/538 lift for an ho with the 13726548 firing order he said I shuld turn up my fule pressure more and chip the computer, thats why I came to this sight for more info, I have heard guys runin the e303 cam with no probs.
thanks for the info,do you know anything about the HO/nonHO computers?

HO cams: 13726548
NON-HO: 15436278
The main difference in the ho/non ho engines is the cams themselves. The heads really don't matter. The mustang offered the HO flat tappet cam in 82-84. This is pretty must a 351w cam. In '85 they started with a roller lifters and roller HO cam. Mustang heads changed a few times through the years but the cams remained virtually unchanged from 85-95. The exception is the cobra. It got a performance cam(E-cam I think) and 1.7 rockers.
The 5.0 truck didn't see an HO type cam until the early to mid 90's. Both my 95 and 96 have one.

Opinion: For your application stick with the non ho. If your computer and main harness are for non ho stick with a non ho cam.

Ask yuor question on the 87-96 F series section. THese guys may be able to help with you questions as well. I see these types of question all of the time there.
