Hi ,
I need some info my C4 is leaking around the pan gasket so I just ordered a new one . It is also leaking around the fill tube where it attaches to the case is there an o ring or something that stops this from happening ? I really need some info because this is making a nasty mess on the garage floor .
The tranny was sitting along time in the parts car before I bought it and put it in the truck . It seems to go through the gears ok with the rear end on jack stands so I am hoping that it is going to be ok when I finally get the truck out where I will be able to put it through the paces . Thanks
Yes there is an o-ring for the dipstick tube. For the pan, check to make sure it wasn't over torqued and dimpled around the holes. The best pan gasket you will find will be cork sandwiched around a metal strip.
Thanks , I bought a replacement gasket and it was the type you mentioned but like an idiot I soaked it in water to make it flexible thinking that it was like a regular cork gasket and it started to separate from the metal strip inside . So I reordered another one . I put an O-ring on the bottom of the tube and it was a snug fit but it still leaked so I am going to try a new one and see what happens . Thanks again .
The o-ring for my C4 dipstick tube was very thick, I had a hard time reinstalling the tube. Also is the tube secured to the head or something similar to keep it from moving around? When you install the new gasket make sure everything is completely dry and oil free or it will leak. That was the tip from the old timer that suggested that kind of gasket when I rebuilt my C4.
