I have a 2005 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew with the front bucket leather seats. The gear shift is on the center console between the seats. The light went out that illuminates the panel that shows you what gear you are in. I do not know whether it is a fuse or the bulb but I suspect it's the bulb because all of the other dash lights work fine and also the tow haul mode button on the center console works. I would think one or the other of those would be on that fuse. Does anyone know how to get to the bulb to replace it? I suspect it would be hard to get to and if so I may not fix it. But, if it's a fairly easy fix, I like everything to work.
Thanks!
I believe there is a replaceable bulb for the gear indicator as well although that is not the bulb I replaced. The bulbs push into the back of the cluster. I made a write-up for replacing the odometer/compass/temp display bulb in this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/666119-2004-odometer-temp-lcd-backlight-2.html It is not very difficult to remove the cluster to get to the back of it. My dealership service writer did not know the bulbs could be replaced (not even in their computer systems) on the 2004 +, so I sent him the write-up and he said he was going to forward the information to Ford.
That's great, if it were my temp, compass, odometer bulb that is up in the dash. This is the gear shift indicator bulb in the center console next to the cup holders on a truck with bucket seats.
Have u done a search on this, if not open lid console and you will see a slot where the lid consloe latch is at. Pry it with a flat head screwdriver, or you can try to lift it up from the very back with some presure and the whole grey cup holder plastic piece will come off. U will see the bulb in there. Its in your manual under what to do if the shifter is stuck in Park.
Thanks I will try that tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes. I am not very mechanically inclined. I am a CPA and I am better at taxes than auto repair.
I have not had time to try it. I am a little nervous about doing this myself. I did look in the owners manual and saw how to remove the cover. I hope to have time to try it soon. Please let me know how yours goes.
Just did it, it was a cinch. When you pull up the console don't pry too hard with the screwdriver as the manual suggests. Just use it to get started and then pry your fingers under the sides of the console. Its attached at the four corners with metal clips. I actually pulled mine a couple of times because I thought I left a screwdriver in the compartment. The second time I didn't even use a screwdriver at all.
