John Typically Detroits discs are write protected and wont transfer... So you have to insert the disk just like MS streets and trips or other read only software.
I just burned a copy, and when I pulled it and re-inserted it the install screen came up. I stopped there.
What I would like to do is copy it to the hard drive or on a second drive and not have to load the darn thing every time I want to answer a question here.
I just installed a new hard drive and don't have the program loaded yet.
I have the same cd jo. You can save the files. I guess you could save every file. Just go through each one and save it. FILE/SAVEAS
Thanks, saving it isn't the issue, I want to run the program from the hard drive not the cd drive. Tying up the cd drive or having to keep the cd handy is what I am trying to avoid. I have 60 gigs of free space, so that aspect isn't a problem.

After you have copyed all the files one of them will be the exacutabull, just make a shortcut to it on the desktop.
Ok I was able to use it but it took a little work, all you need to do is make a folder on what ever drive you want I did it on the C drive, I named the folder Detroit iron, I then copied the Docs file to That folder. Then I copied the Power point viewer and ran the program and made a quick Icon on my desktop. I click on the Icon go to file, then to open, then go to the Detroit iron link open doc's and all the files are there. That's the easy part. Now for the fun part. Print a copy of all the files in the doc's file, and then open them one at a time and write down what the files are like the FOT55G1 file is actually Vehicle Identification. After you have a name for every file then just right click on the file click rename and rename it I named it Truck ID .When your done you will have an easy access to any page any time, you can then burn this file to a CD for future using.
Its more work up front but in the end you will have a database you can look up any time. IM about half way through naming the files. You know it's kinda dumb to copy protect a disk where all the files are easily accessed. Yeah it's gonna take a bit of time to rename the files, and you have to use the Pwpoint program to view them but heck it ain’t that much work. Most of the time you can make an execute command copy and it will be coded for the C drive. Not this little jewel. I have a folder called 66F100 for all my electrical diagrams, trany info, adapters etc… I have downloaded over the last couple of years. I just put the Detroit Iron folder in that Folder. I like to keep things together.
It’s not exactly running like the disk but it does work.
I know that I am dense, thick skulled, whatever, but have a question.
Why can't you put a small hard drive in your computer, copy everything from the CD to that drive, and install the program from the new small hard drive to the C:\ drive?
When you click on the icon it should reference the small hard drive like it would the CD drive. YES/NO???
