I have a 99 7.3 with 180,000 miles on it. Western diesel 3 stage chip, 4 inch exhaust, aftermarket injectors, not sure which ones. It has began to knock, worse when its cold at start up. Then steadys out when it warms up. Not real loud, but is noticable. A long shot, but if anybody can help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks
I had a knock once, and it turned out to be a bad injector (but that was my truck). ran like crap one day, then had to milk it to the shop. would not go over like 25 mph. good luck.
I am hoping it is an injector. What if it is? Takem out and let the diesel shop put them on a flow bench? Or I guess I will have to contact them and see what their procedure is.
Here's a pic of the UVC Connector. Hope this helps. If continuity test is bad you will have to remove valve cover and check that connector under valve cover is fully seated and also look for frayed wires or loose connections. If you get this far ,as Clux said, you might as well put in a new UVC harness.

What if your harness all checks out and you still get an intermiten knock.I wouldnt think it be a bearing going south if its intermiten. So would you think it could be a injector then?
and do those two problems sound similar? Sorry
With the right test equipment a buzz test of the injectors and a cylinder contribution test would be the next step. A search on either will find some good info.
