I did some more research and found a picture of the connector going to the IPR. It is only a two pin connector and the inside of the connector looks rectangular so I do not think it is met to spin. Also heat will get to this and that is why they put a shield there. That code by the way does not only mean an open it can also mean a short to ground or that the IPR itself is stuck open. One pin is always Hot the other pin goes back to the PCM and it is the PCM that control the IPR by using a Pulse width to regulate the oil pressure.

OK...By rotating...it isnt the angled connector part. It doesnt spin..the connector is attached to the cylinder that bolts in...that cylinder rotates which rotates the connector atteched to it.

Is there any way to trick this PCM to thinking the IPR is working? I dont know if it only has 2 values, open and closed or if it meters....I know with an egr you can plug one in detached from vehichleto make it think it is installed. that way it opens and closes off the truck.

Update

UPDATE

Thanks 3000 and everyone....

Plugged in IPR again.....after wiggling the connector doubt the connector whip from truck was bad....after rotating the cylinder where connector attaches...after tapping on it...after wiggling all connections at the control thing on top of the right valve cover...after whiggling the ground post

With the ICP disconnected but installed...and the connector for the icp cit off and the wires hanging out of the hood

the truck showed
code 2285 Inj contr pressure reg low? or something along those lines...I cleared...reset..same thing....the 2623 went away...reset..then

started...3 surges and then ran idle ok so far?

So now what...Ford couldnt find the wire harness on the computer....IDIOT

I will look for the part number on ebay and tell FORD!..but do I reconnect the old harness or leave it...drive it to auction or one of those buy quick places...and ditch the nightmare?

Im afraid to hook up the ICP! Still dont know why it says IPR low 2285 and why I had the 2623?

Ideas?

Ran after pulling, twisting, hitting harnesses, IPR...etc..ICP disconnected..

Idled then died within a few minutes...like before...

Only code 2285...Inj Pressor sensor low...low cause it is disconnecte?

Where did the 2623 go?

Ok now I am going to rig upmy own harness and reconnect

ICP connector home made and reinstalled (ford couldnt find part in computer...they say theve never sold that)

Truck showed 2285 code ICP sensor low....Old code from before when I had it disconnected.

Cleared code...truck showed NO codes now....2285 gone 2623 went somewhere..dont know how I got that to stop coming up..

Truck started...idled good...little rough run for a second..now idling as we speak

I am nervous to go drive it. If it doesnt die soon like before...I will try

Can anyone tell me what happened here from the info I have posted?

Seriously?

The IPR controls that pressure, you could have had bad wiring harness going to the IPR or the IPR itself is going bad. If you have it running drive it and have someone follow you if your afraid of it. It still could be a bad IPR or you fixed the problem from the connector or from the wiring harness.

Truck died on idle 2 times..no codes....

It runs like it did when I took it to ford before doing anything...and I have replaced the ICP....

So could it be that injector issue..#3 and 8 sticking cold?

When it gets hot it dies so this makes no sense...

I had no codes when i took it to ford...so

Did they misdiagnose?

I think the IPR is bad and was your original problem. The IPR can cause problems and not set a code. The injectors would not cause it not to start. After going back and reading again everything you have posted It looks more and more like the IPR.

Ok...so I sent it to the diesel shop. it sounds like it is missing 2 cyl they said. But no compression in oil (fill cap off)....

So not sure where ford got #3 and #8.....

But to sum....ford said ICP...and 3 and 8 inj

NO CODES

I replaced ICP

then got 2623 IPR OPEN...

Disconnected ICP connector...

then got 2285...ICP sensor low

Wiggled and twisted...everythign gone...ran...but died like it did before with ford.

So either the icp was just leaking but working (since new didnt change its performance).....and it needed the injectors...

or the IPR was missed completely by Ford and it was causing it to die like it does erratically..starts runs, heats dies, let sit start run again then die..overnight, start fine...then die (wouldnt inj performance be more consistantly bad-unless they were passing sediment throught them at intervals- which is unlikely)

So I will let the shop know your thoughts 3000! it may be the IPR....

but why would it not set a code until I was messing around, then not again and the truck drove somewhat?

tell me more

Did you have people telling you ICP's and injectors before you beat the truth out of someone? Or did they know by a code or something?

What were your symptoms...the scenereo.

Thxs

Good thing about this forum...you have a diary of events and then ultimately some solution...and people can see it. I found nothing similar though in my search. Mostly HPOP, EGRs, INJ..and that stuff

Diesel Shop says only consistant thing they get is INJ # 1 Bad.....

So they say INJ #1 and Ford said #3 #8 sticking Cold..... plus ICP

I replaced ICP...
SO now what do I do....#1 Or 3 and 8...1,3,8, or 1-8!

I cant see how 1 INJ not working...he says dead...would allow the truck to run when cold...warm up 5 minutes..then die....then wait 10..it will drive a little.

He says 1 inj could be stealing the oil pressure dropping it down on the whole bak. But wouldnt it drop it from the get go? Why the inconsistancy. Makes no sense. i asked about IPR..he said pressure was fine.

Im Confused. Dont want to buy $2400 in inj and have the same problem like when I did the ICp

ANY HELP? I'd appreciate further Ideas

Thxs

If you disconnect the ICP sensor the pressure will default. The IPR could be bad or have debris in the screen. A hard or no start could be a pressure leak.

Well you have a tough decision but an IPR is alot cheaper than 2,400 dollars. I am not saying you do not have a bad injector I am just not sure one injector would not make it start.

Ya I saw IPR ebay $55...But good money after bad on this truck. Maybe I should go deal with ford on a trade in...better yet..get them to fix it then say..trade it in!

I do not know how bad INJ work...I mean can they be intermittent..or do they just go out. I know 7 cyl on a gas engine would run bad all the time..not when hot...this sounds like something else....Funny thing is they said the IPR was fine. I am gonna get the truck back and ask you guys how to check the IPR again for clarification.

Not sure how to OHm the thing out..

I tried diconnecting the ICP..>Ran the same really
