I know there has been some sirius questions like this before but I would like to see if anyone has successfully installed an '08 factory Sirius radio antenna on an earlier model truck and connected it to a Sirius portable tuner. I just ordered the (antenna 85 bucks and wire 15 bucks) for the '08 model to install on my '06. I know that the plug end on the wire appears different in the diagram. If someone has done it, what did you do for the connector end?
I think there are some adapters you can use. Might get a better respone in the Audio & Video Systems, Navigation, Satellite Radio and Mobile Electronics form.

Thanks pyro, I just reposted there, so maybe I'll get some hits. I did'nt even realize that there was a A/V thread. Truthfully I lurk in the SD or 6.0 threads most of the time. Guess I should look over the list a bit better.
I am going to do the same thing. So far the problem I have is the 08 cable is very short, it will only just reach the dash, I am looking for a longer one or an extension. I think the connections will be fine, on the oem cable will just need to remove the plastic piece.

Yeah, I was afraid that the OEM cable was going to be too short. I have a company that I used to deal with for two way radio and cell antenna's. I might give them a holler and see if they can make an extension cable with the correct ends on it. I did see a company that claims to sell the Sirius units to work through any factory radio with either an aux or sat button. Might check that out and do away with the sportster.
I have the factory antenna and cable and it is definately too short. I havent had a chance yet but I think that I am going to ask my parts guy to order me another factory antenna cable. It appears that you may be able to connect two cables together and the only thing you would have to do is cut off one end and replace it with the opposite connector to plug into the radio. The connectors are made by Tyco and should be able to be ordered, if not through Ford, at least through another supplier. Radio Shack may even have them. It's gonna be a little bit before I actually have the time to tackle this as I have too many coals in the fire right now. Unfortunately I have a list of friends and relatives that need things fixed and I always seem to be the one they come too. Probably cause they know I wont say no. I'll let post my results either way.
Well my parts guy called on saturday and told me he has gotten a long cable, so now I need to find out which way the antenna goes. One side is rounded (I assume the front) and the opposite side is kind if squared (I assume the back) also I am looking for measurements from the roof lights if anyone can help.
I will be getting the cable on monday so if is long enough I will post the part #
Well install is complete and works great. I used the following parts:
7C3Z-10E893-B ANTENNA
8C3Z-19A397-A LONG CABLE
7L7Z-19A397-A SHORT CABLE
Install is pretty easy, drop headliner a little, drill 2 holes for antenna, install antenna and run cables. I connected the long cable to the antenna, then the short cable to the Sirius tuner. These cables will get you to the center of the dash easily. The only modification needed was to remove the plastic from the connector for the Pioneer Sirius tuner, but it just snaps open to remove.
Great... I am gonna see my parts gut tomorrow and order the other cable. What size bits did you use? I assume the second hole is for the small alignment tit. Does the tit go to the front or back and were you able to get the measurements? I am going away for but hope to tackle this when I get back.
Double check but I believe the large hole was 5/8", and yes the second hole was for the tit. I used a unibit so it was really easy. As far as alignment I made the front (not the hole but actual antenna) even with the clearance lights which should be about 4" I spaced it about 1 3/4" from the right side clearance light's closet point to the edge of the antenna. From the pictures I have seen and info from a friend I think this is pretty close to the factory location. I have been told the pre 08's are on the pass side and the 08's are drivers but I don't know for 100% I chose the pass side as I prefer to run wires on this side and my tuner is a little more to this side but you could probably do either side with the cables I listed.
I first taped the roof, I then marked and drilled my 5/8" hole, I installed the antenna, positioned to my liking and ground the tit into the tape until it marked, I then removed the antenna and drilled the tit hole and fits perfectly.
I have the antenna installed with the flatter side forward which puts the tit to the rear, again I was told this is correct but I don't know for 100%
All I can say is it fits perfect, does not leak and so far works perfectly. Let me know if you need additional info.
Thanks for the info. I ordered the short cable today using your part number. I will use the unibit as well. They work awsome for that sort of thing. I will tackle this as soon as I get back from my trip.
