Am i missing a crossmember?
Is there supposed to be a crossmember going from each end of the radius arms? There looks to be bolt holes on the passenger side, but the driver's side looks like it may have been CUT off. There are no bolt holes on the drivers side.
This is a 71 f100 2wd. It has a 302 and what i assume is a c4 tranny. Tranny is vacuum modulated (which i think has a busted diaphragm, never kicks down) and has about a 9x7" rectangular pan.
The trans mount does not look too stock to me as there is only 1 bolt per side and in the center of the mount. Very odd. Good excuse for me to put an AOD and 351w in there when i get the money!
The tranny crossmember does only have one bolt going thru it to attach to frame rails.
The vacuum modulator does not control downshift, only upshifts. It reads the vacuum signal from carberutor(how far you have throttle open) to control shifting. If it is not kicking down, the the kickdown rod on carb is not hooked up(missing or mis-adjusted).
You are speaking of the rear engine mount support bracket which bolts in.
Ford calls it a support bracket because a crossmember is riveted or welded on.
1969/72 F100 302 with a C4 transmission: One bolt per side: support bracket to frame side rail.
The rectangular transmission mount (there's only one) bolts to the flange on the bottom of the transmission, then to the center of the support bracket, which is of an inverted U shape, and has two holes drilled thru the center..for that purpose. The holes are not on the top, but at the front and rear. See crappy illustration > >
one hole at front: >-TT -< one hole at rear

It's a 3/8" bolt(uses 9/16" wrench). The two on the frame are 7/16" bolts(5/8" wrench).
Can you tell I've had my junk apart ALOT in the last 20 yrs?
Now i just have to track down one of those crossmembers! Agh!
I'm going into a good wheel&alignment place today to see if they can twist the ibeams for some more caster so it steers a little more modern. I'll have to find the oldest mechanic in the shop!
