Hi guys I am up here in frozen canada and need a little help. I have an 02 f350 that will not start since it got cold will not even turn .Happened last year when it got real cold too .The glow plugs dont sound up but the wait to start light does go off.I am thinking ignition switch but not sure can i test for that and any suggestions? thanks a ton.
I'm scared to even ask what you consider real cold. When you say will not even turn, do you mean the starter will not even turn the motor over? If so then I wouldn't worry about glow plugs yet.
Are your batteries fully charged, and can you test the starter? I don't think the 02's have the solenoid relay on the fender, so jumping the solenoid would require getting under the truck with a screwdriver.
As the other guys said, make sure your batteries are up to snuff. Your glow plugs cycle for up to 3 minutes when it's cold. Turn the key on for 3 minutes, then turn key off then back on. Cycle those glow plugs a couple times. Then try starting. That what I have to do when it's real cold here. The WTS light is no indication of how long your glow plugs are really on.
Batterries are good .It just will not fire the starter up .I was stuck when it did this last week and kept flicking the key and then it turned but no luck now.Is it possible it is just froze up?And when I say cold I mean -35 C minus 20 is just fresh lol.

I am thinking a bad starter solenoid (relay). these 7.3s have gear reduction starters, so I think if was getting power the bendix would kick out and turn (ice be damned)
Hey what you know i got it started! I had the hood open and could hear (sorry for my ignorance )something that resembled a compressor noise on the passenger side. And when i turned the key a click from the drivers side .When i went out and fiddled with some of the relays on the drivers side i seen a small spark and the compresor noise stopped. It then started no prob. Can anyone explain what happened so I can fix this inconvienence thanks?
The compressor noise you heard on the passenger side was the vacumn pump. It will cycle on at times when key is turned on. It sounds like you have a loose relay or one that is going bad. Check your ownwer's manual fuse and relay guide. Mine's a 99 and may not match up to your 02. There may be a relay that has something to do with the starter not getting power.. Good Luck. Someone with an 02 will hopefully chime in.
