I have a 1976 460 that came out of a Thunderbird that I am putting into my 1979 F-350 4x4. My truck is a 1 ton unit with no pollution control things on it. The 1976 460 has a cross over tube that goes into the back of the heads and then goes into the air pump assembly. Can I run this motor without the air pump and somehow plug the holes in the heads where the cross over tube went to the heads?
Hi - the 460 I put into my F100 had the same kind of emission stuff on it. When I took the heads to the shop to have them planed and checked over (including 3 angle valve job), I had them plug the holes up; the engine runs fine. I've also taken the EGR valve off and am running the Edlebrock RPM manifold. I live in a county where the 1974 F100 is considered a "historical vehicle" and they do not require me to meet emission standards, though...be sure to check with YOUR emmision standards!! Good luck with the 460 - mine runs like a scalded dawg...

check with your local ford parts dealer you should still be able to order the plugs that stuff into the holes at the ends of the heads. they look like mini freeze plugs. or try local parts stores they might have them if the ford dealer can't. get them. CJ.
