Yesterday while tearing into the "Red Rooster" again I dropped one of those pesky little tube from the inside of the crankcase vent housing.
(Ford quoted $132.00 for the complete kit)
So I doing the Australian horizonal back crawl armed with a magnet in an attempt to locate this little bugger when all of a sudden I get hit on the forehead by a drop of fluid.
I don't have leaks, so I'm scouring the botton of the front area of the engine and I locate a leak from a gasket from the outlet that the bottom radiator hose is attached to. This unit appears to be of the same high Chineese quality that houses the thermostat and the upper hose is connectid to.
My question is for those of you that have, for what ever reason that you removed this artical, is just replacing the gasket worth the trouble or should the whole unit be rplaced to prevent further leaks?
I'll wait until my malfuntioning 203* thermostate replacement arrives so I only have to drain my coolant once.
I have replaced just the gasket and it stopped the leak. On one, the lower inlet was pitted (used to be a northern truck) and had a pin hole in it so it had to be replaced. So if the inlet is O.K. I would try the gasket first.
Mine did the same thing awhile back. I just removed the gasket, cleaned both surfaces real well and just some insta-gasket (high-temp).
Its been about 2 months or more and no leaks.
Hope this helps.
