Hi. Truck has died a few times this morning. Usually when I come to a stop,it just dies. The last time was when I was at a light in a double left turn lane.I went to make the left turn and it died-I nearly hit the car on my right because of lack of steering. I'm heading up to Tahoe tomorrow, and I'd hate to have this happen climbing up that windy grade. I just had the tranny done-so it was out.I also changed the fuel filter.
I'm thinking cps? Thanks in advance for any input. Ron
First... Do you know how old or what type CPS you have?
OEM - black?
Aftermarket - black?
Aftermarket - blue?
Recent OEM Update - gray?
Also, do you have a spare CPS you can pop in? I've not yet heard of one of the newer gray units failing yet, but I'm sure it can happen.... I KNOW it can happen with the other types even if they're not very old.
I got my cps replaced yesterday at Palm Bay Ford, in Palm Bay, Florida.
Very bad experiance, seems they are starving there and went over my truck with a fine tooth comb and drove it aprox 10 miles without my permission, they nit picked everything from bumper to bumper the fuel filter I had just changed, trand fluid that was changed 5k miles ago, brakes, pinion seal, axle seal, said it needed injectors cleaned, said it needed power steering fluid flush, coolant flush. on, and on and on, everyone needs to do themselves a favor and either insist on keeping eye contact with your truck when you take it in and specificly tell the STEALERSHIP to only do the cps recall and leave everything else alone!!!
Wow that was fast! Pete-Not sure which one it is. I have an early 01', and It is the original.
Rick- I just called my local ford dealer and they can get me in first thing in the Morning. I'm tempted to just go buy one and do it myself. They promise to have it ready by 11.00
Ron
Ron, they are only about 27.00, would beat the heck out of a towing charge. I have 2 gray ones in my glove box, one spare for me and a spare for someone on the side of the road. Easy to fix.
Yes, Unfortunitly STEALERS all probably do this type of tactic just to get your money.
We had a 1997 Thunderbird w/29k miles on a garage kept one owner over maintained that a check engine light came on & the same STEALERSHIP said IT needed its injectors flushed, ignition wires, and swore that there was a secret way to turn off the CEL-they scared my Wife so bad she called me and said is this car safe to drive?? they wanted $120.00 for the wires, and $80.00 to install them, and $69.00 to "flush" the injectors-I went to my local parts jobber and told him money was no object and to get me the best wires money could buy and he did and they were $64.00!! put them on myself-Wife even helpped took about 30 minutes, and while we did it I had unhooked the negitive battery cable to re-set the CEL.
Anyway.....If you are smart don't take your eyes off your truck and don't sign anything--their small print probably gives them permission to drive your truck and pick everything apart!!
I wish I had the time to just do it myself. I can get my running around done in my work van and hopefully the stealership will have the pick up done by 11 like they promised. They said they give it an "inspection" when they do the cps. I think thats when they will try and "ding" me. I will insist they only replace the cps. Hopefully there won't be a problem.
This always seems to happen when we have plans!
Thank you all for the tips, and Enjoy the superbowl!
