Cool My Confession

From the many mistakes i have made with my truck, i hope others will NOT follow in my foot steps....

With a stock 2001 the first thing i did was get a Supertuner and set it to 80hp. A couple of years later i bought a 31' 5th wheel, and yes... i pulled it with my truck...... i am so ashamed...

It is unknown at this time the total damage i have done to my truck other then my tranny started slipping (i had never changed my fluid).

Since then however, i have actively read FTE and have learned the errors of my ways. I have installed the 6637 mod, added a MBRP 4", and i have plans for gauges, Trucool, W/W...etc

For any newbies please dont do what i did. Listen to these guys on here and learn from their experiences as it will save you!!

please forgive me....

I have an 01 psd that has been babied all its life ( 95,000 ) miles and the tranny went last week. So dont feel bad about your slipping, they were under-rated for our trucks anyways ( tuner or not ).

Very good post. I think FTE should have a sticker on each new truck from the factory. lol Thats just it, you live and learn. At one point most of us were in the same boat.

The good thing is, you found FTE and know lots more about your truck.

Thanks

I dogged my 01 just about every mile it's been driven, I replaced a Good/Working fine stock tranny (With a BTS) at 203,000 miles with only 1 Flush at 160,000 miles. Truck has a 100hp Hypertech Programmer for 100,000 miles on it, been running a K&N Filter for 280,000 miles!!

I almost get the feeling that regardless of what we do or how we treat our trucks that in the end it comes down to luck????
You guys have babbied them and beat them with results that are opposite of what should have been???

i would like to think that by towing a 12k lb trailer up steep switch back mtn roads, no gauges, stock intake, and dirty tranny oil, that i did this to myself.
I posted this thinking that if i had the mods done i would have a higher chance at improving the overall efficiency and prolonging the life of my truck.

i still want to believe that mods make a difference otherwise how the hell am i going to convince my wife we "need" these things??? LOL

I think, before FTE a person didn't care or know about what these trucks need as far as maint. and mods. Once a person start mods, they take a different outlook at their trucks. Start spending money, take better care.

And start liking the truck more with mods.

And plus you get that sense of accomplishment once you finish a mod. It definately makes you like your truck even more.

These trucks are made to work, and work hard. Other than letting the tranny go a bit to long without service and running a program without gauges, you didn't do anything wrong. Granted there are better ways to do things right, these trucks are built to do the job "right out of the box". FTE has helped me understand my truck and correct way abuse my truck and I know that it will last longer because of this. I also believe that it would have served me well bone stock, but not have been near as much fun.
So don't start kicking yourself too hard and welcome to the site. Hang around the site and see what you've been missing. We'll be happy to help you with any problem you may have created and keep it running stong for a long time to come.

Don't feel bad about what you did. I have seen trannys go out on trucks with 30,000 and on the other hand the tranny in my truck lasted for 188,000 miles and only had the fluid changed once.
