I can talk about 7.3 because that is what I have. There are lots of guys getting over 20 mpg with CC F-250 PSDs. I had a 99' 7.3 and on the highway I was getting 21 mpg.
Hey Rick, for your 99' 7.3, did you add any mods to get that kind of mileage? I'm Curious because I have never seen mileage close to that with my 2000 7.3 - I am a bit heavy footed though.
Well my idea came from if I drive 600 mile a week and get 13MPG and could find a another truck of the same size (as my job and family need this size truck) that would get say 17 to 20MPG at 600 miles a week. The diffrence where I am is gas $2.85 Diesel $3.25. Based on that it cost me approx $132 a week in my truck. If I could find a truck to do 17MPG that would cost $100 gas and $115 diesel a week ( if 20MPG than $98 a week and approx $1820 a year savings). But if the diesel will not get that kinda MPG at 75MPH then I will have to leave a little ealier for work and slow down to 65 or 70 as advised and keep what I got as I do love the truck. Thanks for everyones advise. Great forum.
The diesel can deliver the 17-20 MPG that you want as long as you are reasonable about it. Get a 2WD, a manual tranny would be good but not needed. Put a tonnea cover on it. Put a tuner on it for economy. Do a muffler delete. Dont screw it up with a lift or deviate from stock tires. I am getting the economy that you are wanting as are others. I keep my fuel records in a tech gallery if you care to check them out. Oh I drive 70-72MPH on the highway.

it's not impossible. my best record to date is 24mpg. i haven't hit it again, but average ~18 pretty consistently. mpg was one of the main reasons I wanted a 2wd. i am sure if I changed gears & tires along with a few other things, I could average 20+. Check this out:

I had an early 99', F-250, CC, LB, 2 WD, auto, XLT. I had no mods, I guess the only reason I didnt have mods was because I was not on FTE at the time.
I did get 21 mpg on the highway. I traded that truck for the one in my sig 9-19-2000 because I kept getting stuck in my pastures. That was a great truck.
