76 I think. Are you thinking of buying a truck, or a front axle?

1976 - 1979 F150 4x4 truck had front disk brakes.
1978-1979 Ford Broncos had the front disk brakes.
Some 1979 F150 4x4 and 1979 Ford Broncos came with original quad shock setup on front axle.

well my grandpa has a 76 with a 360, c6, and full time 4 wheel, he recently quit driving it because he quit farming I think I could get it for free, maybe. I am gathering as much info about it as possible before I try to get it off him because my other option would be just to buy one around here, his is 500 miles away, rusty as hell, and needs valve guides. Any other disadvantages to the 76 vs. the 78 and 79s like all my friends have?

So far he just keeps telling me that its a pile of junk but I don't think he realizes that thats exactly what I am looking for because I'm just gonna bolt on some 33s and hit the mud hole

500 miles away, will take some planning to get there.
Could bring the truck home a some car hauler.
Maybe he could snap some pictures for you, and you can post here.

I know what it looks like I've driven it many times I just never looked at from the aspect of wheeling it. My grandpas owned it since it had 20,000 miles, he got it in 1976, he was a mechanic at the local ford dealership and had a new short block put in right when he bought it due to a ford recall involving the main bearings or something like that. The truck is in southern south dakota and I'm in northern minnesota, getting it here is the problem, I would have to drive it and hope she makes it, could flat tow it whatever distance it doesn't make. My dad refuses to pull a car trailer with his tahoe even though it has a tow package and wouldn't excede the weight rating. My grandpa has maintained it well but that doesn't change the fact that its old and has only been driven like 500 miles a year for the past 5 or 10 years
