There's rumors of guys who "use straight used trans fluid" and everything inbetween - Nothing verified, and even if it was a plausible fuel for these trucks i think more people would have jumped on the band wagon. Everytime i hear about this i BURY it quickly

i saw a guy using it straight in his truck or he said it was just motor oil looked like used motor oil to me. 85 6.9 and he was having no problems. he said it gave him more power and mileage. unless he was lying to me, he was pouring it in as i watched and it wasn't smoking at bit.

sounds very dumb considering how advanced our diesels are today and how cheap our additives are...how bad for the enviroment it would be to burn your oil anyway.

what do you think your burning now??? i don't think anything coming out the tail pipe is anything new or different than coming out with diesel fuel and the "additives". how much cheaper is it and what are you or the oil changers doing with the used oil that's better or will save you anymore bucks than the over priced fuel where depending on from over seas..

Just save it and build a used oil furnace.

i think someone said it was bad for the environment. i don't think if we all burned it we could do as bad as one coal fired plant.

trans fluid will work in a diesel engine. I am friends with 3 techs at the local dealership here that all run straight tranny fluid. They all have older 7.3s. They claim that their mileage was about 1-2mpg worse but there was really no noticable power loss. However, only one of them has over 30,000mi on his truck. So basically, I wouldn't recommend doing it, unless there is a little more research done regarding the longevity. But I can tell you that none of them have had any problems yet.

I don't get it. I really don't understand why anyone would hold the mentality that even though it is harmful i can still burn it because I am not doing the same amount as so and so. IT"S STILL NOT GOOD. I am not sure to what level but i know my fuels don't have all of the wear metals and everything else that it collects while its being used up. We all know that the emissions are a huge issue now so why add to the enormous problem?

Actually, as far as the metals and other junk go, we installed 2 fuel filters after the pump. The first one was a little bigger and had a magnet in it. I don't know where my buddy got it from because I have never seen anything like it since. The second filter was really pretty small. Of course all of the fluid is thoroughly cleaned and filtered before we put it in the truck. As far as emissions go, we don't have testing in Indiana, so thats not a problem, but I think you were referring to the whole global warming thing and I agree with you there.

to me it kinda falls in like of just pouring the oil out on the ground because thats where it came from. just doesn't feel right to me and it might be because we dont have the data to show emissions on it. ..no emissions in indiana? that in itself in part of the problem. You would think there would be a nationwide standard for emissions.

I agree. And I have no idea how burning tranny fluid compares to diesel as far as emissions go. I was simply stating that I know it can be done, SEEMINGLY without too much short-term damage. I see people on here all the time that complain that they can never meet the emissions requirements in California, and I would say that over half of my friends have hacked the cats off of their trucks. It just doesn't seem fair to our friends in high pollution areas, that they get the shaft on testing and we can get away with almost anything here.

you know i don't know about the emissions on a diesel the guy burns straight oil and lives in nashville tn and they do have emissions checks and he's never failed. don't know but it must not be to bad and he doesn't have to stop and pay 3.30 a gal to the people that have caused it all. he just burning something that's saving him money and evadently not doing the environment any harm in the process. do your homework before you start shooting stuff down you don't know anything about. it's not as friendly as vegie oil but hay it works and it's still free.he has 2 filters and a small extra pump also.
