Oh yea, If you live in a cold area, your fuel supplier is most likely using the winter blend of diesel, which helps prevent fuel gelling, but it also hurts your MPG's pretty bad. Once you get summer blend again, you should notice your MPG's go up.......
Instead of starting a new post I'll revive a "slightly" old one.
I just got my 6.0 SD about three weeks ago, and the mileage is nothing to write home about. Last highway trip (about 160 miles round trip, on flat, hey it's North Dakota!) I averaged (by hand and the lie-o-meter were within .2) about 12.5 mpg. I hope that I can attribute that to the winter fuel, even though I put #2 in it.
Around town the truck is (pure lie-o-meter here) struggling to get to 10 mpg , but that probably due to the madatory warm up times. It was -22 one mourning last week, and below zero for the rest of the mournings that week.
Hopefully come summer I'll see a very noticable improvement .
Any thoughts or do I just need to wait for summer?
don't warm it up for too long. you can drive with your gloves on for the first few minutes

oh yeah, I live in Michigan, in the winter i get 14 on avg because of warm-up idle. Once spring comes when i don't use the heat or AC, i consistanly 16 -17 driving the same route to work, and have seen 18+ on the highway couple of times keeping it under 70 mph, and with no head wind
