Im kinda you i suppose and am still learning and need some help im looking at a 79' f150 that needs a new drivetrain ive seen and heard about dana 40, 44, or 60 i think what has the lowest gear ratio?
Dana 40, 44, 60 are the axle model numbers and the actual gear ratio is independent of model #. The gear ratio is the calculated by the # of teeth on the ring gear divided by the # of teeth on the pinion gear. For example you could have a three different model Dana axles and they all could have the same gear ratio in them, but the gears can be changed in any axle to achieve the ratio you want.
Ok, its a 79' 460 stick 4x4, so the revised question i suppose is what axels would it have? and how would i go about changing the gear ratio if it dosnt have the one that i want/need?
