I had a brake line collapse once causing the brake not to release very quickly on that side. Mine was bad enough it caused the brake to wear out in a few weeks. Replaced line, everything worked good again.

You saw the hose disfigured though, right?

Wheel bearings good? No slop at all? Seems like the problem wouldn't come and go if they were bad, however. It would just be there all the time.

Thats kind of the way I figured it as well, but if the thing starts pulling again, who knows where I might try throwing the cash. But yeah, I am feeling no slop, hearing no wnderfull noises. I am hearing, nor seeing anything that stands out..

Real quick Dan, degrading hoses, should see black , almost mud, when bleeding the brakes? Collasped, or twisted hoses are normally very evident by view?

Anything I am missing ( well yes, thats why the damn thing pulls ) ?

No, I didn't find it. I had a shop look at it. I don't think it was too obvious. No notes or anything. Just some crap on the inside where it was coming apart.

In my experience they will be swelled on the outer armoring or when you bleed through them it will sound like there is a restriction. I've never been able to pick out a bad hose by the fluid color.
And lately, due to the age of the vehicles that I am working on, I just include a new set of hoses with the job quote as a matter of routine.
Most of my work is on 10-25 year old vehicles so there are a lot of age related issues. Unheard of on the east coast, but over here the cars don't rust away at all.

Well Pat, is it a done deal now? Did the clips you found sort it out (although I don't know how they could have caused pull)?

I'll be doing my ft. brakes next week, and hope I don't run into problems.

Thanks,

Richard

No Sir, thanks for asking. I am kind of waiting for a wear patteren to develope, to see if maybe there is something else to look at. Like leaf springs, what ever. I have never been so stumped....
