salvaging my 04 150
Hi group,...I know this is off topic,..but I figure you would be the most knowledgeable.
I am going to strip engine 4.6 v8,trans, etc, to put in my 1960 F100 1/2 ton shortbed.
I would imagine I will need the comouter,.should I remove the complete wiring loom? I would like to use the power window motors and locks, and is there any way to use that temp./direction gauge? I would like the disc rear end, but the axle is snapped off.
I also wonder if the steering colum is any good?
any suggestions greatly appreciated Randall

I would also post in the 48-60 F-100 section with this question, some of those guys may have already done something to this extint. good luck I have a 53 f100 and found it cheaper to BUY a Lt-1 motor n trans plus the painless wiring than use a mustang 4.6 that is just taking up space in my garage, and I do have all the wiring & computer for it.

It isn't going to be easy and nothing will be a direct swap.
Here's a link to something similar(putting a 04 5.4 into a 78 Bronco), and it should help A LOT!!!

take every piece of wire that is attached to the truck/motor/transmission.
the swap won't be easy due to mock-up, but it is do-able. oh, and grab the fuel rails and gas tank. that'll make the fuel system easier to hook-up
also, a junkyard rear-end can be had for fairly cheap...junkyards are wonderful things

As Tylus suggested, take the whole wiring harness, including the harness to the fuel tank and sending unit. It'll save you a lot of headaches later. I would suggest, taking out the entire harness in the engine compartment. Make sure you include the power distribution box and the fuse box under the dash. It's alot easier to cut out later what you don't need. Good luck..
