99 explorer stuck in 4wd

99 explorer stuck in 4wd

I used the 4WD this morning, and I know that I have to take it out when I’m done; I used it breifly in the icy center lane to make a left; when I got into the parking lot I turned the **** but I turned the **** the wrong way and didn’t notice when I parked. I had put it in 4 low, and it’s stuck there. Eventually I got the low light to go off, but I could tell that it was still in low. Then the overdrive light began flashing. The guys at the garage got it to 4WD but now it's stuck there.
Any ideas?

sounds to me like the electronic shift isnt working on the transfer case, you might want to check that first

I had this happen to me on my 97 Explorer while driving Highway. The shift motor failed. It fails according to Ford into 4 wheel LO. Just an FYI as I ended up having the whole transfer case rebuilt under warrenty as goining into 4 wheel LO at highway speed is very bad thing.......
