1951 Ford F4

I need to replace the front brake drums on my 1951 Ford F4. 5 lug, 14 x 2. Does anyone know if replacements for these can be found?

No one I know of makes reproduction drums or shoes for the bigger trucks. I am pretty sure the drums are the same for F-4 through F-6, that might help in your search of the wrecking yards in your area. Job Lot does carry the wheel cylinders, master cylinder and brake hoses for the larger trucks.

bob if your yunk yards have got stuff that old in 'em god bless the owners there . i got lucky and found one totally beaten 58 for a part i needed for my tranny swap and thats the only old ford i've seen here in probably 5-6 years . everything gets crushed and scrapped here . the city and counties around here are on a kick trying to more or less get rid of our beloved hunting grounds . sos bear came through my 'hood today as i was getting back in off a run and stopped and looked at the 49 seen the plates i'm assuming and went on . we can not have non op cars within the city limits . i'll probably have to put bessie back outside , move some stuff around in the garage so it and momma can occupy the same space . all the old unsightly stuff in the yards , scrap ones and personal are starting to come under attack here

We have a JY not too far away, that had not one, but TWO F-4's. I believe they were 50's. I can try to check with them, if you are interested...pretty well picked over, but I think there's 8 wheels between them, so maybe one ain't lunched...if they are the same, of course.

F4 front drums

Howdy TVT and welcome to the site,

just thought I'd mention that i'am parting out a 48 ford F5 at the moment. i'am not sure how much meat is left on the front drums, but if your not in a hurry i can pull them off after i remove the front axle and have a friend check that for me. shipping might be a killer though. I agree with bobj49f2 i think you will be o.k. with drums from a f4 to f6 also 1948 to 52, but if you need a nos pair i know a guy in jackson n.j that might have them.

The '48-50 share the same sheet metal.

Kevin, I was going to tease you about patching your sheet metal, I've patch together some pretty bad fenders:

I went to your gallery again and man, your's look even worse:

Not much though. I must have replaced at least 30% of the metal. Once I got into them they was a lot more rust than I initialy thought.

yeah they are'nt in good shape at all , and bodywork is another soso subjects with me . most of my cars / trucks look like sh-t and ran like stink . the truck has one lil hole in the cab floor in front of the drivers side seat about the size of the end of my pinky finger , and as far as i have been able to see the front cab corners are great . it's just those fenders and grill surround !

Kevin,

If you were closer, within an hour I would suggest you bring them on over and I'd help throw some metal in the fenders. My driver's side fender had a bad spot like yours and I ended up cutting out almost the entire corner and rebuilding it.

Kevin, I bet the members from the southern part of the country wonder why the he work on this rusty "junk". You do realize they're probably laughing at us.
