Exhaust on 88 460

Hi guys I have a F-450 with a 460 and my exhaust manifolds are leaking and I don't know if they are cracked. I was wondering if I should go for new stock manifolds or headers. This is a work truck so I don't know if headers would be appropriate. How much power gain do you get from installing headers.

Thanks

If you use your F-450 strictly for work,I'd consider using new stock exhaust manifolds instead of headers.Headers for a EFI460 generally give it about anywhere from 15-25 horsepower extra.Torque will also increase. If you want more bottom end grunt(torque),I'd go with a Tri-Y header because they offer more torque than horsepower gains.A four branch(4 into1 vs. 3 into 1) set of headers will increase power higher in the rpm band.I'd go with Tri-Y headers if I used it as a worktruck. To gain full advantage of adding headers, you might also want to add dual exhaust-I'd stay at 2 1/4",or 2 1/2" diameter size for a stock EFI460. Too big(3" or more),and your 460 will lose low end torque. If you modify your 460(cam,and a supercharger),then 3" diameter duals would work great! To add a little more power you might also consider adding a K&N air filter. Good luck. Hope this helps.
