460 Weight

Hey all,
Just wondering what is the weight of a Ford 460 V8 ready to go? I have an idea its around 720 pounds. Would anyone be able to tell me how the weight is distributed, eg, weight of block, weight of pistions/conrods/crank, weight of heads/valves/tappets, and weight of heads? I have heard of a light weight alluminium block for a 429, (152lb) would I be right in assuming that it could be used for a 460 because the 460 and 429 have the same blocks?
I want to see if I can get a 460 down to or less than the weight of a 351 C to put in a Falcon, so I don't have to modify the suspension. Imagine a Falcon + a 460 + 5 speed toploader style gearbox.................Man-O-Man will it go!!
Thanks,
335C

460 Weight

The 429 aluminum block is an SVO part and can be used for a 460. In fact this block can be bought with a number of deck heights and can be bored/stroked up to just over 800 cubic inches. I would say that if the aluminum block weighs approximately 150 lbs you could probably build an aluminum block aluminum head engine around 600 lbs as the stock block weighs around 250 lbs.

I've also posted this information on my website if anyone needs to see it from there. There is also a excel spread sheet put together by George Miller that details very nicely the cost of building one of these babies, broken down by heads, shortblocks and a cost comparison with PAW
