I just had my dealer replace my rear gears with 3.73 and it improved my gas mileage 3.5 mpg. I have and 06 2wd with the 5.4 and 22" wheels just though I would pass this info on
Like 05Edge said, your speedo will be off, and thinking about if for a couple seconds, when the speedo says your doing 65, your really doing 60, so it shows your going several miles more than you actually are so your MPG will go up on that alone.
Yes, it was done by a dealer the speedo was recalibrated and I double checked it with a gps it is correct. The main reason I did thou was for a little better performance, with the 22" wheels the truck was a dog and wouldn't get out of its own way. it cost me about $900.00 for parts and labor.

i want to say they were around 350-375 for parts I would have to look at the invoice tonight. It was a little high but it actually runs like I feel it should. I am not out to win a race with it I just want the performance I lost by putting the 22's on it My wifes new Avalanch would leave it sitting and we just can't have that.
I'm going in for a 3.55 to 4.10 gear swap in the morning. I just got my edge tonight so I can't wait to get the gears! I am getting the job done for $450 which includes Ford Racing Gears.

Heh...mbogosia, it would almost be worth it for me to drive to Tenn to have this done by this place.
Just out of curiousity, are you going to keep the diff cover or get an aluminum aftermarket with a larger sump?
