I just bought one for my wife. Very nice truck in very good shape. It has about 110,000 on it. Is there a way i can see if the timing chain updates have been done? I drove it when it was cold and engine seemed really tight no rattles and lots of power. I'm going to run synthetique oil in it so hopefully this will help the chain probs. Thanks in advance Lance. This is my first post in this section but i'm in the diesel section all the time as you can see by my posts!
so what are the 'timing chain updates"? I have a 1997 5.0L Explorer

I think the 5.0 are o.k. The 4.0 they started making in 1997 have single overhead cams. So there are chains and guides that could go bad. The 5.0 has your normal timing chain and gears with only one chain. No guides to deal with.
Guess i will find out in the morning. Just got it home. Drove about 130 miles home and ran like a dream. Lots of power out of the hole. Thanks again Lance
