Oil Pressure
The oil pressure (idiot) guage on '88 and after is a nonfunctioning guage that reads about the "M" in "Normal" under all conditions if the oil pressure is greater than about 5 psi. It's nothing more than an idiot light that looks like a guage. What cold engine oil pressure should I expect from an '88 460 with 107k on it? I just bypassed the resistor in the oil pressure guage line and installed a pressure sending unit from an '82 ($11 NAPA) in place of the pressure switch on the back of the block and the guage now reads near max at cold and at the "L" in "Normal" hot idle. This engine may have a high volume pump since it has an external oil cooler. What kind of numbers are you guys seeing with real pressure guages on your rides?
