460 timing

I've got a 79 460 in my motorhome. The sticker in the engine compartment says it should be 8 btdc, but a guy i work with says it should be 10 btdc because of the altitude up here in colorado. Does this sound right to you? Any advice?????

Your compression will be less as you go up in altitude...so you can run a little more timing. If you start to hear the engine ping or spark knock you have gone too far. Some engines will be O.K. with 10 degrees initial even at sea level, it all depends on quality of fuel, cam timing, engine temperature, air temperature, load, carbon buildup, etc.
