I was wondering if anyone knew the difference in weight from a 400 to a 460? I am using 78' bronco front suspension! Do i need to get heavier springs? Thanks Eric
don't know the weight of the 351 but the 460 weights in the neighboorhood of 700-800 # depending on options...check my website for individual weights of heads, crank, etc
I've had no spring sag on my '82 Bronco going from a 351W to a 460. And that includes a behind the bumper Warn Winch. The engine sits behind the front springs, not directly on top of them, so 145 additional pounds of a 460 over a 351M/400 is a negligible factor in a truck spring rate designed for total vehicle weight of 5000+lbs. I don't recall the exact front/rear weight distribution, but with a 105" wheelbase, it's pretty evenly distributed.
When I did this in a 79 SWB, the only thing I noticed was a more pronouced top heavy feeling in the corners. Have 3" lift coils and doesn't sit any lower than with the 351M/400.
