I have a new 2006 F-250 (leftover) with 3700 miles on it. I tow a 26' fifth wheel trailer and get about 10-11 miles to the gallon. Are there any good aftermarket products that can improve this? It's a gas, 5.4 engine with 3.73 gears. Are K&N products worth a look?
No kidding when towing some people get worst than that really i dont know what you could do to get better mileage when towing k&n in my opinion there products do nothin
I only get 10-11 beating around town in my 00 F250 with the 5.4. My truck really woke up when I put a performance muffler and I plan on getting a throttle body spacer and a good tuner for it soon. My buddy did this and said his was like a whole different truck.
Custom tuning is probably one of the better things you can do in my estimation. MPG improvement though may or may not be seen, but I would be willing to bet you'll enjoy the performance more.
best i ever got towing was either a 16' car hauler trailer with some lumber 3-4k lbs or my uncles old 14' terry camper was 12 mpg .... an that was alot of hwy at 65mph ....
with my 26' camper approx 6k lbs ... 10mpg is best ive got.... and thats with all of my mods (except hood and ram air... haven't towed with that yet since its winter here and my trailer ain't going no were till spring)
other wise around town i get avg 13 .... all hwy not towing approx 15-16 mpg...
is your truck a Crew Cab? short box?
my only recommendation for you would be a tuner... simple because it drives better ... but i don't imagine u will see more then .5 pr gal + mileage out of it
I had an 05 F250 crew cab 5.4 2 wheel drive,373 gears,I got 14 to 15 empty,8 or so towing,my new truck is V10 and all around gets better milage than the V8,I get 12 to 13 empty,towing 9 to 10
I took a second look, you said your towing a 26 foot gooseneck, what is it rated for and how much to you have it on there(both max that you have on there and what you consistantly have on there if they are different numbers). I'm thinking you might actually want to invest in 4.10 gears depending on what you load on that trailer.
