No Test Mode from "Water in Fuel" Light
Hey guys... another one for you. This was brougt on by the other topic on here about water in fuel light. For a while now my water in fuel light has not come on when i turn my ignition to on or done the test mode (Truck in gear turn to start) all the other lights work. HOWEVER every now and then I see it flickering. I've checked the connection at the botton of the fuel/watter seporator. I don't think this is the issue tho because as mentioned, it works sometimes but not in test mode. Could there be a loose connection? I hate to buy a whole new light set for there. Is there a way to get in there and test connections? any ideas would be great! Thanks!

I'm not sure just how that is wired but I would imagine that the wire at the fuel filter is ground for the light and when water reaches the contact it completes the circuit. The system would be simular to that of the holding tanks on travel trailers. They have a series of contacts up the wall of the tank and as the water rises it completes a circuit.
Just as a test, momentarily disconnect the wire from the filter and touch it to ground, the light on the dash should come on.
I'm sure that someone that has first hand knowledge will jump in and set everything straight.

Well that's a first .. (Truck in gear turn to start) is a diagnostic tool? Does it work also on F250's?
Robbgt, on mine:
when key is turned on : Wait To Start Only Indicator
key turned to start and engine cranking : Water In Fuel Indicator ON
key released - running : all indicators OFF.
Waiting for the wrath of FTE - Ok guys, just had a very bad day a few weeks ago!!

Hussler: if you turn you key forward 1 click (no electronics, but un-locks column shift) and put it in D or R and turn the key all the way to start, the truck won't start, rather cycle all the warning and cel lights. On mine however, the light doesn't work in the test mode or when i start the truck initially. SO i'm thinking there is something wrong that isn't on the bowl side... thanks for the help so far. Any other thoughts guys?

It's a precess of elimination. Ground the wire and if the light doesn't come on then the next step is the Bulb, if it tests good then come on back for more advice.
I have never looked at the back of the dash and do not know if it is a printed circuit and the bulb holders make the connection or if it is in fact all hard wired.
One of the members that has disassembled the inside of the truck e dash board can help in that distinction.
