Rear Main Seal

Just wondering if anyone here has had to change their rear main seal? and if so how long did it take and how difficult is it to change it? I have a pretty good oil leak and it seems to be coming from the rear main seal. That's as far as I can tell. Any info on this will help

Thanks,
Ben

A rear main seal going bad on these trucks are pretty rare. The lead could be coming from your turbo pedestial or HPOP. Both will show oil running down the back of the engine making you think it is a rear main. Look in the valley of the engine and see if there is oil in it. If so, the oil leak in on top of the motor. Hope this helps

Check the turbo pedesal. It's common for the orings to develop a leak. The oil drains down the back of the motor which looks like the rear main. Rear main leaks are uncommon.

You may also check to be certain it is oil and not fuel. The orings on the drain valve for th fuel bowl are common leak areas also. I just replaced my over the weekend. fuel was running down the valley on top of the motor and draining down the back of the motor and dripping from the oil pan. Two orings and 30 minutes fixed the leak.

I agree with the above. Get a flash light crawl on top of the engine and look under the turbo for oil. sometimes it takes close looking to find the leak.

I had a leaky HPOP o-ring and oil leaking from the CAC tubes and it looked like a rear main seal leak. Look up top before you panic.
