well I personally drove a 77 f350 service truck with a 460 c6
I think where all the confusion is that the 4 wheel drive models
with a four speed 460 comination where low production or had to be orderd and possilby not avalible

I am sure of that... Now my problem is the C-6 is about 10 inches longer than the np435.. The Driveshaft on my truck is already pretty short.. only about 3 feet long..In order to use the C-6 I may have to have the drive shaft shortened. I am a little worried about it being so short after this completion... My question would be. on a 73 with a C-6 transmission - stock, is the driveshaft shorter? How is it setup? Read my other posts further up for more details as to what I am doing... Thanks.

There are a least two different tailshaft lengths fr a C-6. Some trucks, 3/4 tons anyway came with a C-6 with a shorter shaft and the driveshaft yoke was bolted to the output shaft not a slipjoint like a car. The slip joint was at the steady bearing.
The 73-79 factory parts book shows that the 460 was available in the F150 2WD, F250 2WD, and F350 2WD from 74 to 79. No F100's with a 460. No 4x4's with a 460. No manual transmissions with a 460.
It isn't clear if any 73's were produced with a 460. The 460 related part numbers are all 1973 numbers. However, the 73 shop manual doesn't mention the 460, and parts store computers don't acknowledge a 73 460. It looks to me like the 460 was ready for a mid year introduction, but was pushed back to 74 because of the oil crisis.

But, the parts are clearly available for this kind of swap... They are in many parts catalogs and my local parts house has in their books for my truck all the parts I need for this swap... I now know where to get all the parts I need and what needs to be done... After doing a little reading and some checking around.. Very interesting about the shop manual too..

Here is an interesting combination you could order from the factory back in '79,according to the 1979 F-Series Brochure: F-150 Flareside 4X2(117" wheelbase) with a 460,C-6,and 3.73:1-geared limited-slip rear axle! Talk about a "sleeper"....

The reason I ask is because I put a 460 in a 78 F-150 with a C-6 that had a 400m and didn't replace the torque converter. Will this damage the engine or tranny?? It seems to run perfect.
My application is 460 in a Bronco and I recommend L&L parts. No affiliation, just experience. I broke two 3/4T motor mounts before I went to the L&L mounts. And their remote filter kit is far superior to others I've used. You get what you pay for.
Everyone keeps saying use L&L... I have never heard of the company until coming to these boards and I probably should have asked before.. Do they have a website? Where can I get a catalog?

Georgedavila --- true, the L&L mounts would last through World War 3!! I've had a lot of nice comments about these beasts...and their headers, indeed, look like they will last a lifetime!!
