Mig welder is that the same as a wire feed? Some of the ones on Craigslist seem pretty pricey. A guy that does some body work told me a 100 amp is good for that type of application.

I have forgotten more about welding than I remember now. Used to do a fair bit in school and college.

I have a lincoln weldpak 100 which is ok it serves its purpose as far as light duty stuff is concerned. my buddy has a little Miller which is a much nicer unit. replacing sheet metal isnt to bad. Drill out the spot welds where you can and cut where you must, fit and stitch weld back together. LMC Truck has a good selection of replacement panels in their catalogue. Haven't tried lookin for them up here although I know floors and corners are easy enough to get. You should order their catalogue if you don't already have it, it's free. Even if you don't order anything the catalogue itself sometimes comes in handy. www.LMCTRUCK.com

That site is very handy when it comes to replacement panels and whatnot.

Yeah a mig welder is a wire fed welder, with the gun.

Mike is your lincoln a 110v?

Well depends how big you want, and what brand you want. I think the little 110 only volt ones might be around the 500 dollar mark.

Plus its handy that way. Just throw it in your truck head to your buddys place, grab some beers and start welding away, no need for special outlets

yes my lincoln is 110v. It works ok for stuff up to 3/16. Penetration isn't good enough on anything bigger IMO. Great for sheet metal replacement and smaller projects. If I were to do it again I would get the Miller like my buddy's it's also 110v. and is definately a much nicer unit.

I bought a Hobart yesterday.The Hobart Handler 140 Mig Welder-Output 25-140 Amp-Input 115 volts-Welds 24ga=3/16 steel-20% duty cycle@90 amps with thermal overload protection.It will be perfect for the sheet metal work.

Nice work. I've seen the hobart in action and its pretty decent unit. Can't wait for it to warm up some so i can start on my cab

I think I will enjoy it alot.There definately thing's I wiil be doing with it other than auto body work.It will come in handy.I got a good deal on it as well.

Mind if I ask what you got for a deal Sedly? Sounds like a really nice welder.

I heard something that hobart merged with either miller or lincoln, I forget which one.
