This is the second time I am posting.
I have about 225K on my truck, and I need to replace the front hubs. Are all the ABS components located in the front hub assemblies? Can I convert my non-front ABS truck to ABS by buying ABS hubs?
Yes, the ABS sensors are located in the hubs. I don't know if your trucks computer will support it, if it wasn't stock. There is also a second harness that goes from the sensors to ? Mine hasn't broken yet, so not sure about your upgrade question.
I go places where there is snow built up on top of "icey" roads. The abs always enguages when I dont want it.
If I lock up the wheels in a stright line the snow will form ramps and stop the truck faster and more effectively then ABS can imagine.
Same thing for mudding / offroading. Ever get into a situation where a few wheels are slippin and the others grabbin... ABS gets in the way big time
Thats why i hate it.
I feel safer without it. I can feel the truck sliding out, when that happends let go of the brakes and try again... or if your going stright, and snow is getting built up under the wheels then keep letting it do so.
Thats why i hate my abs, but i guess for most people its wonderful. I just want to be in control, back before ABS people knew how to drive and handle sliding conditions, now people rely on the technology too much in my opinion and so people do not need to learn how to drive as well.
But abs does not help if under power and sliding....
I realy like my anti-locks,in Fla when roads are damp the are like driving on ice and the last thing you want is a brake to lock,I nave never had mine lock and that's what I want
Thank you for all the replies. The wiring for the ABS is there. I wouldn't mind having the ABS. We don't have snow here often, and I like having the control in a full brake situation.
I have found a few things in my truck, that Ford just didn't add as an option, but once you plug it in, it works fine.
I believe you would need the new ABS hubs and sensors. All the wiring shoudl be there, so then all you have to do is replace the entire ABS controller as well as the ABS Modulator (that electronic valve assembly). Then you will need the lines etc from the front of an ABS truck. Way more trouble than its worth at 225k.
thats my thought too... you could look at the abs module - but if it is setup for only rear abs the front ones wont do squat until ford reflashes that abs module... 225K not worth it in my opinion.
just practice driving in slick conditions - i guess i take it for granted living in new jersey we get crazy weather up here and we have to get used to it
