Please look inside!!! HPOP failed!!

Ok now that i got your attention on my way home from a 2hour road trip and i notice my dually started to buck and not run, so i though the CPS was on its way out. The truck started to shut off and i coasted to the side of the road. I open the hood and restarted the truck and noticed the intire motor was covered in oil, i then seen the back side of the HPOP was sparying out engine oil from the big freeze out plug looking thing on the back side of the HPOP. I shut it down and got towed home.
Now iam not 100% sure on what is leaking from the HPOP but iam just going to replace the HPOP since this is an early 99 model PSD (built date is may of 98) and with the DP tuner chip it runs out of psi in the HPOP. I cant aford the twin HPOP so can i order a stock replacement from Ford for a newer model PSD with the diffrent degree pump? What year is the "better" HPOP and will i need to upgrade to the same year ICP also? Any info will help guys thanks!!
Erik

there is a snap ring that holds that in place. The thing looks like this without it. Nothing to hold the pump in, and all the internals go Blahh and no more pump. You'd be best to replace it, since you have an early pump. visit Terminatorengineering.com, tell joey your situation and if you could just get a single new 17* pump. He's a great guy and i'm sure he could sell you one of his new remans cheaper than you could get it somewhere.

Thanks for the post, but the cap and snap ring are still intack, but it looks like the oil leak is coming right from that cap. Iam not 100% sure if it is the source of the leak since i didnt have a mirror to look up higher on the HPOP. I think there is a fitting just above the cap and maybe there is an o-ring on that fitting that failed? I did notice early this morning my truck had a kinda weird idle to it like it had a lumpy camshaft from a gas motor, but the truck does that sometimes so didnt think anything of it. My good buddy works at a Ford dealer so thats why i asked if there is a year truck that there is a "better" HPOP that i should get and if i should replace the ICP with it? I will call Terminatorengineering if my buddy cant come thru for me tommorow.
Thanks
Erik

If you get it from your buddy at Ford, and they don't need the core, you could send it my way. I may be needing to send in a core sometime.....

Iam sure he will need the core, but if not iam just going to hold onto it for maybe a DIY twin set-up. As iam doing more and more searches on here i noticed this..check it out, maybe i just need to replace the o-ring on the fitting right above the cap on the back side of the HPOP?? MAybe this will be one of thoses cheaper fixes?

Ohhh, you dog you. In the spirit of helping, the later model 7.3s have a 17* HPOP that ought to put out more ICP. Lots of folks running the 15* successfully. I believe they are interchangable. Just make sure the pump is gone and not an oring or seal. They are not cheap.

Don't send it to Brandon, I will need it more than him. I just depleted the bank account of Mod funds and I tried clicking my heels three times (there is no need for a HPOP upgrade, there is no need for HPOP ungrade), but it didn't work. I still think I need it.

I tell my wife we need the upgrades so we can run from a tornado

on another note, if the cost is similar you might want to check into dieselsite's new Pulse direct replacement HPOP.

I had a o-ring on the plug on the back of the HPOP go bad and from my dad house 13 miles away I had oil everywhere . So check those lines and that plug if thats what it is Ford has a repair kit with 3 o-rings and a bottle of loctite for about $28.00.

Will do thanks. As the tow truck driver was loading it up on the flat bed i checked the underside!!! I never have to worry about rust under the truck now. It was cover in oil, and so is the tailgate and probley the few tailgaters that were behind me when the truck was slowing dieing on the innerstate. I just changed the oil 200 miles ago and now iam not sure how low it is but iam going to change it again to be safe. Oh yeah the oil pressure gauge on the dash never moved so iam hoping the engine didn't starve for oil.
