I have a 91 superduty dump. I have dumped 1k into it trying to get it to the point where it will start without having to lift the hood and shoot starter fluid in it. The module behind the carb was changed, the relay on the fender was changed and I just changed the glow plugs last night. At this point the truck will just crank with no sign of starting.
Any help would be great.
the truck will start with starting fluid correct?
are the connectors going from the gp controller(behind carb) to the gp`s in good condition? the plastic tips tend to get brittle and break off.
are you sure the glow plugs are getting power? a easy way too check this is to take one of the plugs off of a gp and while the wait to start light is on stick a test light in the plug and see if there is power there.
I have not tried to start it since I put the new glowplugs in it last night with the starter fluid. I would guess it would but I did not want to take a chance on damaging the new plugs. I will take a look at the connections at the controller tomorrow.
Air leak in the fuel line or return line? Air leak at the fuel filter or seperater ... could be causing fuel to return to the tank instead of staying up in the lines ...
You didn't say how well it ran after you got it started ...
yeah if it were my truck i would make sure my glowplugs are getting power first.
the fact that you say it runs fine after you get it started with starting fluid maks me think it is a glow plug problem rather than a fuel problem. if the fuel was draining back to the tank like someone stated ealier than i think even if you got it started with starting fluid it would either die or run really rough while all the air is purged from the lines and fuel is being brought back up.
