2.5" should be ample. How big is the pipe you've got on their now? Wrap a string around the pipe, then measure the amount of string it takes to get all the way around the pipe 1 time, then divide that length by 6.28, then multiply THAT number by 2. That is the diameter of your pipe

You're an engineering major? I'm an engineer too Well cmon, you want me to just assume you know then make you look dumb if you DON'T know? There IS a method to my madness, although some guys here might disagree

If I was you, Id buy a nice bassani Y pipe, and get a highflow cat, I think the bassani Y pipe is 2.25 into a 3" out, then a 3" cat that splits into 2. So you can run your dual. I still would like to see if I could get a truck to pass CA inspection with long tubes, as my truck passed NJ inspection with LT's and no Emissions junk, except for the cat. Can you take your truck to a private shop, or is it like just a state inspection station? Here in NJ there is DMV inspection stations, or you can go to a private shop. My old job did my 1st inspection on my truck as it had a manifold leak. 2nd inspection was DMV with 36's and all. Passed also.

The LTs will pass the sniffer on a healthy truck but they WILL NOT pass the visual inspection. California is VERY strict on their standards and longtubes don't fly around here. The inspection states are privately owned places (often built onto gas stations) that are certified by the state to perform inspections. And I know what you're thinking "pass them some money under the table". No way, they're putting their license and their innocence on the line. If they get caught they're facing major repercussions, California has ZERO tolerance. Freakin hippies

Have you ever asked? Its like me puttin cat on for inspection and taking it back off after. The shop could say it wasnt like that when it came in. NJ is pritty tough, my bros talon failed for white smoke. It was cold out so all the cars were blowing white smoke out. Id ask around im sure some shop would let you slide.

It's just not worth all the trouble of finding a shop and swapping parts back and forth etc etc. I did a lot of research about this and all the guys in CA chapter said 'GOOD LUCK PASSING SMOG!!'

I've already found a few people interested in buying them so no big deal.

Thats coo, come move to NJ, lol then you can have long tube fun. I had long tubes on my 88 Wrangler, drove by a cop with just the headers no pipe or anything, that thing was so friggen loud, he didnt do a damn thing lol. Didnt think that it be such a hassle, seeing your truck runs the same with lt's or not. Just more power. I got another question do you have an inspection sheet from the last time you had it? Here is my emission results. HC standard 300 read 143, CO% standard 3.00 read 1.69. CO2% didnt have a standard but read 12.2. All of this is at 725 rpm. Id like to see what a truck with all the egr and air pump reads. See if it does make a difference or not.

You got it. This was the check performed right before I bought it (requred to smog it before the sale is completed). I'm not too sure of what all the numbers mean (whats healthy and what isn't) but I know it passed

Holy smokes, looking at those numbers now it appears my truck is very healthy!! Average HC is 26 and I put out 5?! Average CO was .10 and I put out .01?! Very nice (I think).

Yea it is. I was looking mine over compaired to urs, and it looks like id fail in CA lol. Your Co2 was 15 at idle and 15.2 at 2K. Mine was 12.2 at idle. Your HC was 5 at idle and 8 at 2K, nine is 143 at idle. Your max for HC is 100 where as my max is 300. So id fail. I wonder y ur HC is so low. Then your co% at idle was .00 and .01 at 2K nine was 1.69 at idle. Your max was 1.0 and 1.1. I would have failed. So I guess when you undo all of ur emissions junk you run a bit dirtier, but my cat got 110K on it. So it might be old also. Thats some good info for u CA guys. lol
