2001 explorer 5.0 engine, 2wd. Any idea where flasher is located? I looked on the steering wheel under dash. Isn't the flasher round like it used to be years ago? Autozone website says it is on steering column, but I sure don't see it.
I just replaced one in my sisters 95' Expl. 2 door. The haynes manual for her car said it was behind the instrument panel to the right of the steering column, it was not. The owners manual mentions everything but the hazard/turn signal relay.
Turns out the Flasher relay was to the right of the OBD port clipped fast to the steel frame. The flasher relay was yellow, not black like in the haynes manual picture. The new flasher relay I got at Napa($18) was not exactly like the Ford OE relay. The Ford unit clipped into the connector, but the Napa relay didn't have a locking clip just slid in and was held by the prongs. I used a wire tire to strap it fast to a hole in the steel frame.
The relay location may be different on your 01' but thats where it was on her 95'. The relay was never changed because the explorer was in the family since new.
