Mostly the "cool factor",, but they convert a flathead to an OHV hemi. They were designed by Zora Arkus-Duntov of (later) Chevy engine fame. Like they say in the ad, only 200 sets of the originals were made. There are at least 200 mega-millionaires out there now who would like them for their eye-candy street rods. I wouldn't get caught up in the bidding, they are likely to go a lot higher!
Those heads were originally conceived to increase power for Ford truck engines and the hot roders started using them later. There were also V8-60 versions made at a later date that were used in midgets. I once owned one set of each (mid 70's) and sold them for what at that time was big bucks ($500 per set)...................... -- Chuck
Personally I could care less about the Arduns. I'll let the people with more money than sense buy them. For less than $13K you could build a heavily blown and stroked 460 that will push 1500 hp which would be 10 times more than the Ardun flathead.
