What fuel your runing

Wonder for any of you in the northern states where your looking at 0 to -30 below if you are running straight number 1 or 50/50 or 40/60 winter blends with anti-gel?

nowhere near MN but i run B20 when i can get it and at minimum B5 with no additives. truck loves B20 and likes B5 with no additive better than ULSD with DK. i am forever sold on biodiesel!! i wish i could get B50 or B100. not for the environment but for my truck!!!

In this area the stations all carry a winter blend of premium diesel, some put additives in it some don't. I put stanadyne performance additive in mine when I fill up. I only know of one station that has pumps for premium and #2 diesel and it is over 90 miles away. I don't know of anyone selling biodiesel at the pump. You have to have your own storage tank and order it. Cost more then dino around here by quite a bit.

My family in South Dakota runs #2 with Schaeffer's Dieseltreat winter Blend. Have had no gelling issues this winter. Much more cost effective running #2 with the additive than paying $3.65+ (edit - previously typed $2.65- oops!) per gallon for #1.

Also, Artic diesel is refined & sold in MN, they have done additional refining on the winter blend #2 and added Schaeffer's diesel fuel additives to bring the gel point down to 30 below zero and bring the cetane to 45. More cost effective than running the 50/50 mix, save youself some $ if a station is close.

Here are the web links for more info and a map of locations.

Beware on some stations trying to copy there diesel pump signs to make it look like they are selling the same product, they find them once in a while and fine them for the infraction.

I run biodiesel but not during the winter up in SD, the gel & cloud points are much higher.

Iv'e been running number 1 to be safe, the local Cenex carries it. The other stations have 50/50 blend number1 and 2 , The 7.3's we had where I use to work the shop forman had us alway run number 1 in winter so never new how 50/50 would do for gelling. Just thought someone out there maybe runs it.

50/50 will work fine for anti-jelling, but #1 diesel contains less energy (BTU's) -- which means you burn more fuel to do the same work. SO you will use more and pay more per gallon since #1 is much more expensive now. If you look at the map on the Artic Diesel website, maybee there will be a station close to you and you can save some $.

Pacific pride fleet fueling is were I fill up. The one station here has a B5 blend for ulsd. Im not sure what their winter mix is in the winter, I could call them, but i havent had any issues with gelling. Its been down to 0 here lately. When I cant run the blend I like to add the diesel kleen white or gray bottle, but i dont usually remember to get dk

Number 1 is more $$$ but I was trying to era on the safe side, I don't drive that many miles with it in the winter. Have a gasser for running around in the winter. I can get 50/50 mix most any where around my location or if I want I can mix at the cenex what ever blend with number 1 and 2 separt pumps.Realize the number 2 has more BTU's that was one of the reasons I was seeing what others have run for fuel blend and at what temps. thank for the info.

Near Memphis....I finally found some bio B20. Truck loves it....immediate difference can be heard. Same price as normal USLD but can only find in 2 pumps in West Tennessee.

I live in Bemidji, where are you at?. I'm running straight #2 with Power Service white bottle (has anti-gel in it). It's been as cold as -25 F when I leave for work, no gelling at all. The fuel in my transfer tank stays totally liquid as well.

Migh be good for anti-gelling but the last report I read showed it sucked for added lubricity.

Powerservice was way behind the power curve when ULSD came out. They didn't change their formula until after the problems occured.

Here's the link.
