Almost every time but not every time, the transmission seems to hang when it's time to shift from Drive to ODrive. Definitely worse when the trans is cold.
If I run the RPM's up and then let off, most times it will shift up sometimes I have to repeat 2-3 times before it will shift.
So put your thinking caps on, pull out those unused manuals, and see if we can figure this out.
Fluid is Mobil 1, ~15K on fluid.
Maybe this normal, but I dont think so.
I don't think it is normal either. When was the last time you changed fluid? How is the fluid level now? Does it smell bad? Can you drain the fluid and see what lies in the pan? Give BTS a call. I know you may or may not be in the market for his trans but I'll bet he will give you some advice.
With only 15,000 on the fluid it shouldn't be bad, but i'd still check the level and see if it's burnt. The manual says check the fluid then hood it up to a computer for diagnostics. I drive a stick so I'm not much help here.

I shouldn't have needed a trans at 55K but Thanx to Ford who inserted the diode in it, I did. Also he has an 01 which might be a high risk unit.
OD light is not flashing? Once these transmissions start acting up I've learned that the only route they know from then on is South. Not news you want to hear I know. Take it to a proper transmission shop and have the codes read by someone that is familiar with the 4R100. There is generally no charge for this service. Your best hope is that the problem is the shift solenoid, or a PCM problem. If not, a new transmission is in your very near future.
What speed are you trying to go into overdrive? Mine will not shift up to OD till it hits 45mph. It will stay in OD until the speed drops back down to 40.
Ok,
I checked the fluid level - level was on the mark, nice pretty red in color, didn't smell, look, or taste burnt.
Not sure about the TC lockup, I can feel it shift into drive and then I wait for it to shift into OD.
When it doesn't I run the RPM's up and then back out of it quick, most times that makes it shift into OD, sometimes I have to do it 2 or 3 times before it finally shifts into OD.
I have been contemplating the BTS VB, but I can't even get time to install my Wicked Wheel or bypass filtration.

Mine was doing all this. Man I thought I was an optimist! Get a code reader, plug it in and drive it while an assistant reads the codes. It will tell you why it is not going into OD as that is electronically controlled.
I'm not sure if I understand your post entirely. Sorry for all the questions - just trying to vision the situation. But this is what you should be feeling, :
put in drive, then you should feel each shift and see the drop on the RPM guage
shift from 1st to 2nd
shift from 2nd - 3rd
TC lockup, feel like a shift
last shift 3rd to OD
is this what you feel when you a driving?
is the Overdrive light on the shift lever flashing?
Ok, superchips programmer shows no codes.
WB - I can feel 2nd - 3rd, not sure I've ever felt / noticed the TC lockup, then I'm waiting on 3rd to OD.
OD light has never flashed/blinked.

You should feel the TC lock up before shifting to OD, feels just like a shift.
Does the super chip programmer also read live data? If it does, try reading the transmission data and it will show if/when the TC locks up.

.
with my truck for about 100k miles before trans rebuild and after about 6k after rebuild I never felt or heard torque lock
finally figured out torque was slipping at lock up and shifting to fouth at the same time, but was shifting to OD
Ok,
On my way to work in the morning I'll try to listen for the seperate shifts and pay attention this time.
I will report back either from work or when I get in tomorrow evening.
