E4OD trans filter fell out

Hey guys just wanted to post and see if any of you have ever had this happen to ya. I have a 96 f-250 with the 5.8 and the e4od and I changed my trans fluid and filter about 6000 miles ago and just last week it wouldn't go into drive or reverse until it was warmed up for about 15 min(it was pretty cold last week) but after that it ran and shifted ok. Well I had a chance to get it in the garage and I pulled the pan and the filter fell out with it. Was just wondering if anyone else ever seen that. The orange rubber ring that holds the filter was still up in the hole. I put a new filter in anyways. Start the truck now and it goes rite into gear. I was scared that the bands were getting bad and would need a trans rebuild I'm glad this wasn't the case. Could the filter vibrate out from 4 wheelin over ruff terrian or did I just get a bad fitting filter, surprised it didn't happen till after 6000 miles.

this is why i recommend using the filter that ford sells.

if put in right it usually stays in place.

If this is a recurring problem even with Ford filters, there are filter clips that you can screw in to hold the filter in place.

I completely agree. I've got a deep pan (more of a change for the filter to drop out since the pan isn't helping hold it up) and mine stays put just fine. BUT perhaps there is some extinuating circumstance involving his valve body that is causing the filter not to grab correctly, in which case the clip would help.

I'm just trying to give him some options. No reason to heckle me.

I have a shop and do performance parts installs and have never had this problem before, the clip sounds like a good idea, as I actually use my truck off-road unlike most, I would like this to not happen again. I would like to install a deep pan but was worried about the filter falling out again. But with the clip I wouldn't have to worry about it. thanks guys

I thought if you had a deep pan the filter would be lower as well?

it still attaches the same.

ford uses ford filters and no clips and because they are installed properly they last for many years.

the trick is seating it properly.

if anyone interprets this post as heckling i can't help that.

I replaced mine (E4OD) with a part from the local parts store, and when mine went in you can feel it almost click in to place, real positive connection that it came out with...
Also, I thought my pan held it up somewhat as well

quicklook2 is right about this.
Better quality and cheaper than "store" or generic filters if you buy it here:
